Do you know what are they?
They are Dongba symbols (東巴文). This year, I went to Lijiang (麗江) with my parents. It is really a nice place which is one of the cities in Yunnan province. When I arrived the Old Town of Lijiang (麗江古城) where it was the tourist attraction, I found that there were lots of paintings on the wall. After asking our tour guide, he said that the paintings were the symbols for Naxi people (納西人) to communicate in the past. These symbols even have a longer history than the oracle bone script (甲骨文). Naxi people used to record complicated events and express their abundant emotions through the Dongba symbols. Indeed, there are many Dongba symbols in the Old Town of Lijiang, but I found that this one is the most special one because it is colourful and there are some chinese words nearby which inter-bilingualism is used.
There are some websites written by other bloggers about travelling to Lijiang.

Some bilingual features, such as transliteration and inter-bilingualism, are also used in these blogs.
Let's plan your trip to Lijiang!

Wow!
回覆刪除I admire the intelligence of our ancestors so much that they create such a wonderful language system. Dongba is really a precious asset to Chinese culture! When I travel Lijiang next time(hopefully I'd have the chance), I will take a look on it.
By the way, the photos taken by Summi are beautiful ^^ Thx for sharing!
It is amazing that ancrstors create this interesting Dongba text which is similar to old Chinese text. And these photos which are taken by you shows that Linjing is an attractive,beautiful,old-fashioned place. You can introduce some Dongba texts that make the article more attractive :)
